What is PTE Academic practice?

PTE Academic includes speaking, writing, reading and listening tasks. Each task asks for a different response: you may speak into a microphone, type a short answer, choose options or reconstruct what you heard. A useful routine covers all four skills while spending extra time on the tasks where you make repeatable mistakes.

How to practise this task

  1. Choose one task type and read its instructions before starting.
  2. Attempt a question without pausing to search for the answer.
  3. Review your response and any available MaxPTE feedback.
  4. Write down one specific correction, then try another question.

Practical preparation guidance

  • Alternate focused task practice with longer timed sessions.
  • Keep examples of recurring mistakes so your next session has a purpose.
  • Use the Academic mode in the MaxPTE practice catalog; Core is a separate exam mode.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Repeating comfortable tasks while avoiding weaker skills.
  • Reading feedback without applying one correction on the next attempt.
  • Treating a practice estimate as an official test score.

A useful 20-minute session

Spend five minutes reviewing a previous mistake, attempt two questions from one task type, then use the remaining time to compare your responses and record one improvement for tomorrow.
